Misty rain in Jiagnan (Yu Sui Jiangnan)

This song was composed by He Tu in 2009 in collaboration with Mo Mingqi. The style of their music works is diverse and is known for its "old style". Although originally written for erhu it has become immensely popular and has been played in innumerable versions.

We have adapted it again for our ensemble. He Tu has composed many songs but Yu Sui Jiangnan was composed as an instrumental piece only. The soft slow rhythm evokes the rainy atmosphere of Jiangnan with its dripping willow trees and the old river towns.

This is the first digital project we've attempted since the COVID shutdown.

Each of our members recorded themselves at home, and sent their contributions to be compiled by the members with music editing software.

Yu Sui Jiangnan is one of our favourite tunes, and while this first recording isn't perfect we have learnt a lot and look forward to sharing a couple of other projects soon!
